Explore Alliance Live Broadcast: Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

UPDATE October 12th! We were clouded out for our first attempt to broadcast the comet live from above Cebu City with Christopher Go. But we will try again tomorrow October 13th at the same time. Check www.explorescientific.com/GSP158 for an updated schedule.

Prepare to witness one of the most extraordinary celestial events of our time! The Explore Alliance is thrilled to host a special 158th edition of the Global Star Party, which will broadcast starting just hours from now, featuring renowned astrophotographer Christopher Go from the Philippines. He will provide expert insights and breathtaking visuals of the rare Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, making its once-in-a-lifetime journey through the inner solar system.

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS - 158th Global Star Party - Explore Alliance

This comet, straight from the icy depths of the Oort Cloud, is set to dazzle skywatchers across the globe. Shining very bright, Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is expected to reach peak visibility in mid-October 2024, thanks to a rare forward scattering effect. This phenomenon intensifies the comet’s brightness, potentially making it visible even during daylight hours—a rarity for comets!

As Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS passes close to both Earth and the sun, its colossal 130,000-mile-wide coma and stunning 18-million-mile-long tail will light up the night sky. There’s also the potential for an "anti-tail" illusion, a rare optical effect that makes the comet appear to have a second tail pointing toward the sun. It's an event that promises to be as awe-inspiring as it is unique.

Join Christopher Go as he guides you through this cosmic marvel during the Global Star Party. Christopher Go, known for his breathtaking planetary images, will provide expert astrophotography tips and live views of the comet.

Don’t miss this special event—it’s not just a chance to observe a rare celestial object but to experience it with two of the most respected names in astronomy. Whether you're a seasoned astronomer or a curious stargazer, this is your chance to see Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS in all its glory.
